Mornings are difficult, and finding the motivation and energy to leave your warm bed can be very tricky. In pursuit of just a few more minutes of much-needed sleep, people often find themselves hitting the snooze and snuggling deeper under their covers only to then find themselves rushing to make out the door and into work on time. These tips and tricks for getting ready quickly for work will help you score a few extra minutes of sleep in the morning without being late.

Plan ahead

The best trick for getting ready quickly for work is to plan ahead as much as possible. People often find themselves rushing about in the morning, trying to make sure they have everything they need for a successful day at work. Mitigate this morning panic by packing your bag, breakfast, and lunch the night before. Planning your outfit is also a great way to cut down on your morning routine and reduce your time spent consternating over your clothing. Setting out your ensemble ahead of time, including accessories and outdoor fashion apparel, will prepare you for the day and may even allow you to spend a few extra minutes in bed.

Place your outerwear, including hats, shoes, coats, and bags, in a convenient location near your front door; that way, you can quickly grab it on your way to work in the morning. If you’re a social butterfly with a myriad of events to attend after work, each requiring its own outfit change, plan your secondary outfits the night before as well. Packing your gym bag or preparing your day-to-night look in advance will help your morning routine progress smoother and faster.

Skip the snooze

For many people, the snooze button is the greatest obstacle to making it out the door on time. Subverting the desire to hit the snooze button multiple times in the morning can be particularly tricky, but there are a few measures you can take to make it a bit easier. Start by placing your alarm as far away from your bed as possible. This will force you to leave the comfort of your bed and make you less likely to hit the snooze button. You can also invest in an alarm clock that mimics a sunrise. This alarm type provides a gentler wake-up call that prepares your body for wakefulness. By the time you’re ready to turn off the alarm, your body will already be wide awake and ready to tackle your morning routine.

Multitask when possible

Simplifying your morning routine and multitasking as much as possible can cut your routine down significantly. Choosing products with multiple uses, such as a combination foundation and concealer, will also streamline your routine. Getting dressed while listening to the news or brushing your teeth while you wait for your toast to pop can also save you time. Automating certain aspects of your morning routine, such as making coffee or warming up your car, can also help you get ready more quickly.

To cut down on time even further, try to simplify your wardrobe and outfit choices. You can streamline your clothing without sacrificing style by choosing versatile items that can be worn in various weathers and social settings. A stylish vest, for example, will draw compliments from all your coworkers while also keeping you warm on the way to work.

Time yourself

It may seem silly, but timing yourself is the best way to ensure you stick to your morning routine and get out the door on time every day. Create a schedule that outlines how long it takes for you to shower, get dressed, eat breakfast, and make the commute to work and try to stick to it as closely as possible. Not only will this help you get out the door on time, but it will also give you a better idea of what time you need to wake up in order to complete all the tasks in your morning routine.
